Practice Policies

  • SAIL swim league divides swimmers into age groups of 10 and under and 11 and up. Due to our numbers and the special needs each group presents we have structured our practice to allow for a safe and productive practice for each age group. Please see the schedule to determine when your swimmers are expected to practice. ***Our youngest competitive swim team swimmers fall into the 8 and under subgroup and require more supervision and one on one assistance. If your swimmer falls into this age group and is a new swimmer please bring them for a Swim Assessment on one of the two days offered (5/6 and 5/7) This relaxed, friendly assessment will help our coaches determine if a swimmer is ready for competitive swim team or if they need to begin in Guppies. Additional details will be sent as we near the start.
  • We offer a Guppies group for our youngest swimmers. They meet Monday-Thursday for instruction, but do not compete in our weekly swim meets. We will schedule a Guppies Meet with another swim team to give them a time to celebrate their accomplishments. We do not have any age parameters for Guppies, but the typical age range is 4-6. We have had some older and some younger, depending on their needs. Guppies should be comfortable putting their face in the water and being in the water without wearing any flotation devices. Our coaches will assess for readiness and that information will be sent prior to our May 26th start.
  • Swimmers on our competitive team are encouraged to be at practice as much as possible. After school gets out, some swimmers attend both morning and afternoon practice, but this is not required.
  • Please arrive at practice with the necessary items (goggles, towel, water) and be ready to focus on the task at hand. Our coaches and swimmers will have a lot of fun, even during practice, but our coaches need swimmers focused and motivated during practice in order for practice to run safely and effectively.
  • The lifeguard and the coaches will determine when practice will be altered due to inclement weather.  Stay tuned to email, Remind messages and Facebook/Instagram posts for updates on any changes.
  • Swimmers, coaches, and parents are all expected to contribute to a fun and respectful atmosphere at all times during swim team practices and functions. If swimmers require reminders and redirection, this will be offered respectively by our coaches. Additional support will be given by our swim team volunteer parents and by the parents of the swimmer, as needed.
  • Please do not approach coaches during practice or swim meets. Coaches need their entire attention devoted to swimmers. If the coaches are talking to a parent, their attention is off the swimmers. It is dangerous; therefore, please approach one of the SAIL reps (Ashley or Kym) with any questions or concerns, and they will relay the information to the coaches at a more appropriate time.
