Volunteer 101

For both away and home meets, there are a required number of positions that MUST be filled at every swim meet, or the meet cannot run. For home meets, there are several more positions that must be filled including hospitality/concessions, runners and most importantly, set-up before the meet and clean-up after the meet duties. Both teams provide 60-70 volunteers.

Once the swim meet is open in the app to register swimmers for their events, the volunteer jobs will open. Please review your schedule carefully to select working the first half shift (typically end of warm-ups 5:15p through Event 35ish ) or second half shift (Event 35ish through end of meet). It’s important to have EACH family work a volunteer position so that another family will NOT have to cover duties for both shifts.

First half volunteers should report to the volunteer check-in table upon arrival to the meet to verify your assignment and receive a badge/lanyard. The badge ensures you are checked in for your shift, allows you on deck in cordoned-off spaces to reach your job position, allows you to receive hospitality water and promotes you are a valid volunteer on duty. First half volunteers should report to duty by 5:15p.

Transition from first half to second half shift can be crowded. It is wise to check in during Breaststroke-Events 31-40 and be standing by when the Meet Director calls for second shift to report for duty promptly at Event 41. The meet is delayed if volunteers are not in position to begin second shift.

In addition to swim meets, we require volunteers for Friday morning ribbons/donuts, Divisionals Spirit Week and End of Year Banquet. Stay tuned for those announcements.

Newer timing systems called "Time Drops" are being slowly adapted across many pools and we may be attending an away meet using a different method of timers utilizing stop buttons versus manual stopwatches. We will update this information separately.
